Monday Night Annihilation Zone
(Feb. 18, 2002)
By Johnny Gallivan

Hello again, wrestling fans. Johnny Gallivan here. I recently took in the latest Annihilation Zone, held at Toronto's Skydome. Forgive my lack of knowledge about XGWO and it's talent, but here's what I saw.

The show started off typically, with a guy in a groundhog suit talking about Valentine's day. Wait a minute, did I type that right? Yes, yes I did. Of course, after we found out that Billy the Groundhog was sent by Lee Todd, everything started to make a little more sense. But, the festivities were short-lived as the 4-plex champion, Avalanch entered the ring, and disposed of the groundhog in his own physical manner. Lanch's own actions were cut short, as the masked man who laid out Wally and Tristan at Medieval Melee arrived to give the champ some dire portents about his future. Then, just as Avalanch had decided to smack the beaver around a bit more, (or was it a groundhog?) we were treated to LWA/Beast world champion Lee Todd's appearance. Lee saved his little buddy from Lanch's assault, playing the unlikely hero.

After that, we saw the appearance of Cobra, who talked about UCWF, and forced the rookie Fury into a match next week against Jake Justice. After that, we actually got to see the ring, when Tristan, Shasta, and Screamer faced off in a three-way for the XGWO Lightheavyweight belt. The match was a wild affair, ending in a win by Shasta after his partner Zack's interference. But, after the match, Zack took the lightheavyweight belt, and refused to give it to the rightful winner. This resulted in a brawl between the two men that had to be broken up by officials. As punishment for the scrap, Cobra booked a match for next week with Zack and Shasta teaming up for a chance to get a tag title shot in a tables, ladders, chairs, cage match!

One financial pissing match later, and we had another match signed for next week: Slickie T versus Rock'n Ryan. Our next match pitted Edison Carasio against Slickie himself, with a case full of money on the line. After a violent, and thoroughly confusing match, Edison pulled off the win.

Next, we saw Rage challenge Andrew "Bad Andy" Dwyane for the XGWO Tristate title. This match was a violent, bloody affair that ended when Andy tried to cheat by lowering the Tristate title (which was suspended over the ring). But, Rage got to him before he could grab the title, and became the new Tristate champion.

I made a quick trip to the snack bar, and when I returned, Lee Todd and Insomniac were fighting one-on-one. Lee Todd eventually nailed the f*ck U, and won the match, making him the #1 contender for the IC title. Afterwards, X-Rated came out, and told Lee that he would have to face him before he gets his IC title shot.

After that doozy of a match, the Man In Black (who apparently is taking some time off from alien-busting) sent Avalanch a note, alerting him to the fact that he had just stolen his titles. Well, whomever he is, we know that he's strong enough to carry off several hundred pounds of gold. Afterwards, Subway and Vinni Mastrianni took on Avalanch and Jake Justice. Early on, Avalanch attacked the ref, but somehow avoided DQ. The match continued until the Man In Black returned on the big screen to tell Lanch that he was giving back his belts... all but the world title. Avalanch was distracted, but Justice had the sense of mind to win the match. The belt-less world champion then commandeered an ambulance to further his search of the masked man.

The main event featured Josh K. Risma against Trent Hunter. Trent eventually used a tazer to knock out Mr. Risma and win the match. The show ended with Cobra announcing that Trent's match against Avalanch next week will be inside a glass cell. Overall, the show was packed, as is XGWO tradition. Next week's show sounds like it's going to be another taste of mayhem, so if you get the chance, check it out. I'm Johnny Gallivan... and you're not.
