Evening, wrestling fans. Johnny Gallivan here again. I know I've been holding out on you guys for the last while, but I know all you "Gallivan-dals" (ok, I'm working on that one) are in need of a little vitamin G. So, last week, I checked out XGWO latest Annihilation Zone.
The show starts off as Pete Hanks and Mike Coleman ran down the lineup. Trent Hunter, the Dream Warriors, Andrew Dwyane, and the Man in Black came out before any matches in what appeared to be a show of strength more than anything else. They start off by threatening the XGWO franchise, Avalanch; the man whose hunger for cheeseburgers is only outweighed by his hunger for gold. Dwyane (how on earth do yo pronounce that?) trashed Rage, and the MIB trashed Aurora Death Fyre. Well, it seemed that this wasn't enough, as Trent Hunter then proceeded to call out Edison Carasio. They are disappointed, however, when current XGWO commissioner Josh K.Risma shows up to put an end to their party. Josh notified Trent that his upcoming match at Unholy Gauntlet would be a 60-minute Iron Man match. As if that wasn't enough, the Man in Black was warned that if he lost his match tonight, he would have to face Cobra at Unholy Gauntlet in a 15 foot high steel cage. We barely had time for that to set in before Jake Justice, Wally and Tristan hit the ring, armed to the teeth, and a brawl erupted.
Well, enough of the stipulations, let's see some wrestling! The first match featured my favorite wrestler (am I allowed to say that?) Lee F'n' Todd against Zack Glass. Well, I'm not up to date on Glass, but he was very impressive against Todd, nailing a DVD early on, but didn't capitalize by going for the cover. Todd used his technical expertise to regain control, but after an argument with the ref, Zack nailed Lee with his own finisher. But, instead of covering him, Zack decided to DDT the referee! Apparently not satisfied, Zack retrieved his baseball bat and brought it into the ring. But, Lee took it from him, and used it to turn the tide. Two "Fuck U"s later, and Lee Todd was victorious. After the match, lee tried to do some more damage, but Shasta came out for the save on Zack Glass.
Outside the arena, Avalanch apparently showed up in a monster truck, and demolished Lee Todd's car. Now, stealing a woman is one thing, and trying to break someone's neck is another. But, you don't mess with another man's ride. That just isn't done. Well, when Lee tried to confront Avalanch, the big man mistook him for the Man in Black, and attacked him.
After another pissing contest between 'Lanch and Trent Hunter, we got to see a Hardcore Title match between Avalanch, The Phenom, and Da Biatch. During the match, Viper hit the ring, and inserted himself into the match. Viper is another former LWA challenger, so all of a sudden, XGWO didn't seem so foreign to me. After a brutal melee, Lee Todd hit the ring with his own ref, and attacked the champ. Da Biatch eventually hit Lanch with the ring hammer and got the 1,2,3. But, on his way out of the ring with the belt, a mystery man attacked him and became the new Hardcore champion. A very suave Mr. Joe then came out, and announced the debut of Pretender, who walked out with the title.
Our next match was a mini Gauntlet match. Everybody seems to be doing Gauntlet matches these days. I'd better check into it, but I thought the LWA had the patent on those. I'll ask VKM about it next time we have lunch. Anyway, the first two competitors were Jake Justice and Josh K. Risma. Josh finished off Justice in short order after a rollup. Andrew Dwyane was next, but also got beat by Josh following a fisherman's neck breaker. Rage was next, and managed to beat the winded Risma after the downward spiral. Semper Fi was up next, and won via countout after Rage left the ring to chase down an interfering Subway. (is that anything like an elevated train?) King Arthur (yes, that King Arthur) came out next, and defeated Semper Fi after an impressive gorilla press into a diamond cutter. Claymore was the last man in, but succumbed to a body scissors by King Arthur.
After the match, Andrew Dwyane was caught talking with his monkey backstage. We then got to see the Man in Black face off against Aurora Death Fyre... a woman. MIB beat down Aurora until former champion Hornet made an appearance and laid out the masked man. He unmasked him, revealing none other than President Jason. Dragging Aurora onto the unconscious man, Hornet gave Fyre the win, and also signed Jason's death warrant. He now has to face Cobra in a steel cage at Unholy Gauntlet. Hornet alerted the fans that Cobra had signed him onto the XGWO roster to find out just who the Man in Black was. He did, but before he could celebrate, X-rated hit the ring and announced that he would be joining the Zero Mercy Militia, and that he would also be facing Hornet in a Japanese Spider Net match at Unholy Gauntlet. Things definitely seem to be shaping up for the pay-per-view, and I'll definitely be reserving my seat early.
After that, Edison Carasio did something that I won't even report, because it was noteworthy only in its tastelessness, so let's move on to the next match. Jake Justice and Avalanch defended their tag titles against the Dream Warriors. (I'm trying sooo hard not to make a Dokken joke right now) Well, this match was kind of boring until my favorite, Lee Todd came out, and laid out everybody in the ring with the lethal combination of "Fuck U", and a fully charged tazer. After showing who's boss, Lee took out the ref, and counted the pinfall with Screamer lying on top of Avalanch. Bad night for the gold hoarder so far, as Lanch loses 2 titles in one night. Backstage, we saw another title change hands as Da Biatch interrupted an interview with the newcomer, Pretender, and pinned him to take the Hardcore title.
Our main event of the night pitted Shasta and Edison Carasio against Trent Hunter and X-Rated. This was a great finish to the night, as it was an entertaining wrestling match. Trent got the cover on Edison after a Full Moon.
All in all, an excellent show. XGWO shows that it can still pull out all the stops, even on a free TV show. Afterwards, I stuck around and talked with some of the talent, then hung out in the parking lot to sign a few autographs. Unfortunately, the weather didn't want to co-operate, so most of the fans were already gone home when I got out. Have no fear, fans. This reporter will be at Unholy Gauntlet, so take your Johnny Gallivan posters down off the wall, and bring them along. Until the next show... later.
